?Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART?, Symphonie No 2 en si bémol majeur, KV 17 (Anh. 223a, Anh.

"[...] The Second Symphony in B flat contains four movements, marked Allegro, Andante, Minuetto I and II, and Presto. Like the K.16 it is scored for two violins, viola, bass, two oboes and two horns, although experts agree that its orchestration is incomplete as it stands. In fact, the presence of a fourth movement has led certain Mozarteans to insist that the work was produced initially by Leopold, who then assigned his son, so goes the report, to orchestrate it. The listener is invited to participate in this musicological guessing game, which in no wise impairs the essential charm of the Symphony. The unrelentingly suspicious Saint-Foix reminds us 'we must not forget that the great, and the most original, masters have copied in the course of their tutelage; copied, yes, and copied perhaps at the order of their teachers. And that is why we mistrust the above mentioned Symphony in B flat.' It remains to be added that the piece would not have been unworthy of Mozart or of his father, or of anybody else. [...]"

Voici donc...
